On campus students will have the opportunity to put their learning into action with a practicum partnership with 24:7 Youth Ministry that includes working with a team to lead school retreat programs and collaborating with parish-based youth groups.

]]> Year 11

In the first year of the program, you will develop foundational skills for ministry and leadership, such as written and oral communication skills, active listening, time management, discipline, interacting with others, and principles for a healthy lifestyle. While building those skills, you will also be able to deepen your understanding and experience of the Catholic faith by studying the Creed, engaging in various forms of prayer, and identifying your spiritual gifts.

Year 12

In this second year, you will be given the opportunity to use the skills you developed in your first year in variety of ministry and leadership contexts. You will be able to use your communication skills in one-on-one mentoring. Your skills in interacting with others and time management will be used as you work in teams to plan, organise and implement Christian ministry events. You will be able to use your spiritual gifting to further your leadership skills in a ministry setting.

This course is approved by the Western Australian Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority to contribute to WACE.

1 day per week for two years

]]> In this program, you will receive faith formation aimed at deepening your understanding and knowledge of the Catholic faith through a systematic study of the Creed and an examination of the principles of leadership as revealed in Sacred Scripture.

You will learn how to interact with and communicate effectively with others, hone your presentation style, and develop a variety of leadership skills in a practical setting. You will also learn practical life skills such as time management, features of a healthy lifestyle and relationships, as well as developing your spiritual gifts and habits of prayer.

You will have the opportunity to put your faith and skills into action by being an effective and reliable volunteer and ensuring the safety of those you work with. You will plan various projects that involve the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. There are also options to equip yourself to mentor other young people in their own faith journey and ministry skills, or to work collaboratively within a team to plan and execute events that support and inspire young people in their walk with Christ.

This course is approved by the Western Australian Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority to contribute to WACE.

Work placement

Although there are no minimum hours of work placement required, some assessments must be completed within a youth ministry setting.

]]> To this end, Acts 2 College offers a Certificate II in Active Volunteering from the Community Services training package. This course assists students to understand the skills required to effectively participate in volunteer work, by developing their understanding of the legal and ethical requirements of volunteering and how to consider the diverse needs of those they are working with, while also developing their communication skills.

In addition to this, students can choose any two units offered by Acts 2 College, including our own accredited units in Catholic theology, leadership and ministry skills to support their particular areas of interest.
